AdvancED is the largest community of education professionals in the world. It is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of PreK-12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential. The Washington State Council is made up of educational leaders throughout the state and it's role is to review evidence about and make accreditation decisions concerning institutions that are or wish to be accredited.

This was a leadership position at the high school that centered on the implementation of the HSTW core principles for school improvement. The position required more than 300 clock hours of training over the course of several years, as well as attendance at numerous local/national conferences. My role as a Leadership Team Member and Grade Level Team Leader was to learn the nuances of these key practices, develop strategies for their implementation at the high school, and mentor a team of staff members through this school improvement process.

I presented a unit that I have developed over the course of my teaching career in a session entitled "Using Forensic Science and School Connections to Engage Students in Science." The presentation was over 75-minutes in length and given to an audience of approximately 200. It was one of the highlights of my professional life.

Sustainable Classroom Technology Team Leader

This team's work was sponsored by a grant from ESD 112 and centered on the constructive use of electronic smart-boards, document cameras, Caliphone speakers, and student response modules for improved classroom instruction. As the school team leader I was responsible for ensuring the grant requirements were met and that the equipment was properly installed and functional. I was also responsible for coordinating my teams training on the dynamic use of these new materials with the ESD throughout the course of the year.

As a grant recipient through this program I received over $10,000 to purchase computer technology for my classroom at a time when very few classrooms had this kind of resource available to students. I also received extensive training on how to integrate the use of this technology in a way that results in higher classroom learning. I was so successful at the implementation of this grant that I was invited to teach the training component of this grant for the following three years.
